Come and see Armour Home at Essential Install Live! South – 13th June Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey, KT10 8AN

Armour Home will be exhibiting at Essential Install Live! South. For a Custom Installer it’s a great chance to come and see all our exciting new products, some of which will be show for the first time including:

Systemline is our flagship custom Installation brand and we’re very excited about three new additions/upgrades to the range. First is the iPad/iPhone Application which allows an ‘iDevice’ to become a complete system controller for the Systemline S6.2 multi-room system. We chose to team up with market leaders ‘Demopad’, to help create the template program and two way software interface for this new control option and we’re delighted with the result.

The new ‘E200’ from Systemline arrives in August. It’s a very stylish, built-in, clutter free, wipe clean, DAB/FM/iPhone, single zone sound system aimed at the kitchen/bedroom market and simple commercial installations. Competitively priced, it’s quick and easy to install and delivers a very impressive performance. Also get hands on with the new Systemline ‘AirWay’.

Just launched, it’s the world’s first Apple AirPlay enable ‘wireless’ in-ceiling speakers system. Naturally, we are also showing Systemline ‘Modular’, the multi-room system that has been so successful in the new build market, because there are definite signs of recovery in that sector. Q Install and Q Acoustics We’re showing off the multi-award winning 7000 5.1 home cinema speaker package. Once you seen and heard these astonishingly good speakers you’ll understand why ‘What Hi-Fi’, ‘Home Cinema Choice’ and ‘AVForums’ all give them such rave reviews. Q Acoustics’ designers have helped develop the new Q Install installation speakers, so it’s not surprising they’ve got off to a brilliant start. Check them out and also see the soon to be released and higher specification ‘Performance’ models will being shown for the first time. Home Cinema Modules The luxury dedicated cinema seating company have some examples for you to relax on. But be warned, these beautiful leather armchairs, with optional powered reclining, storage and in-built cooling cabinets, are so comfortable you won’t want to get up. Aquavision The bathroom and weather resistant TV specialists have some great new models on display, as do renowned Canadian hi-fi, home cinema and installation speaker specialists PSB, including some outstanding new all weather models.

Your clients will be impressed and reassured if you specify one of the new NAD ‘MDC’ (Modular Design Construction) home cinema receivers for their installation. As technology improves, internal upgrade modules can be ‘swopped out’, keeping the receiver up to date. Last but by no means least, QED Professional has its fully rated (UL13 Power Limited and Riser cable certified (CL3R) ‘Silverline’ speaker cable for you to inspect as well as many other cables and accessories to make the job of the professional installer that bit easier.

Renowned Canadian Speaker Maker ‘PSB’ Enters The High Performance, ‘Luxury Headphones’ Market

PSB Speakers, a company recognised internationally for its excellence in loudspeaker design, is pleased to introduce the ‘M4U 2′ (Music For You) its first ever set of headphones.

The new M4U 2 ‘Active Noise Cancelling’, over-the-ear, headphones are the culmination of a multi-year research program, led by PSB’s Paul Barton, at the Acoustics Laboratory at Canada’s National Research Council.

The result is a more accurate way of interpreting how people perceive music when listening to headphones. The PSB design team believes that the M4U 2 sets an entirely new standard for musicality in headphone listening.

PSB products are distributed in the UK by Armour Home. Its brand manager, Jack Fox stated:

“A lot of high level science has gone into the design of the new M4U 2s and it has clearly paid off. By any standard they are simply wonderful headphones which unquestionably deliver an excellent musical performance. Beyond this however, I believe they will become the premier choice for anyone listening to music outside the confines of a quiet home environment. They are a ‘closed back’ design which also benefits from state-of-the-art ‘Active Noise Reduction’ technology. This combination allows you to blissfully enjoy your music in places where conventional hi-fi headphones would fail to perform. When you are listening through a pair of the new PSB headphones you won’t be disturbed by what’s going on around you and, equally importantly, you won’t disturb others.”

With a personal product like headphones, comfort and style are as relevant as sound quality. For unsurpassed comfort, the M4U 2 features an ergonomic four-point gyroscopic ear pad mount that automatically adjusts to the precise contours of the listener’s head. Soft ear pads and light weight make the M4U 2 headphones seem to ‘disappear’ when worn – only rich, detailed sound remains.

David Farrage, of New York’s award-winning design company ‘DF-ID’, designed the elegant form. As a result, they have the same high level of fit and finish you’d expect in any premium accessory. Combining durable materials with tactile textures, these folding headphones make a strong design statement and will be available in striking black or white finishes.

There are also a number of useful features not commonly found in other headphones. For example, thanks to a PSB developed four-microphone system, the Active Noise Cancelling function covers a broader spectrum of noise reduction, which measures the sound both inside and outside the ear cup. The external microphones allow for a handy monitor function at the touch of a button making it easy to suspend music listening in order to hear the outside world without removing the headphones. Since the microphones are placed at both ears, the sound is natural and allows listeners to hear all the spatial cues that let them know what is going on around them. The active amplifier used in the M4U 2 design improves the sound of portable music devices such as an iPod, iPhone or MP3 player. By allowing the internal amplifier of those devices to work into the “easy load” of the M4U 2 input, distortion is actually lowered, and the battery life of the portable music player is extended. Unlike many other headphones that utilize active amplification, the M4U 2 can also be enjoyed in ‘passive mode’, a relief for those who forget to change depleting batteries before a long trip.

The new PSB M4U 2 has a Suggested Retail Price of £299.00 inc vat. The black finish model is available now from PSB authorised dealers throughout the UK. The white version will appear in August 2012. The beautifully presented system includes a protective travel case, two accessory cords, and stereo and flight adaptors for both home and mobile listening. Battery life with ANC active is around 55 hours and the two headphone cables are 1.5m in length.

Channel Four TV Documentary ‘Home of the Future’

Armour Home and other Distributors Support CI Industry
‘Home of the Future’ is Channel Four’s acclaimed documentary series in which The Pereras, a regular family from Sheffield, have their lives transformed by cutting-edge technology, giving them a taste of how we all might be living in the future. The shows feature all aspects of future living, from electric cars to health monitoring, home working, automated lawn mowers, ‘green’ living, multi-room home entertainment and much more. NAD Home Cinema electronics, Armour’s in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, as well as the Q2 radio, were filmed for the show. Ashley Hutchinson, Armour’s channel director responsible for custom installation products, stated:

“Home of the Future manages to hit the perfect balance of being entertaining, informative and even making viewers think about the future; so Armour was very pleased to be involved in this important project. Working in conjunction with colleagues from ‘Control4’ and ‘Wyrestorm’, we installed a very comprehensive home entertainment and control system throughout the house. This has helped raise awareness of ‘CI’ products on behalf of our whole industry.”

Leading Canadian loudspeaker designer PSB is proud to introduce the ‘Mini’, a new addition to its award-winning ‘Imagine’ Series.

PSB loudspeakers are distributed in the UK by Armour Home. Alex Munro its channel director responsible for the brand stated:

“The Mini is the newest member of the ultra-stylish Imagine Series. Deceptively small, the mini produces a large soundstage and impressive bass, along with the true-to-nature sound for which PSB is renowned. With its high-performance and compact size, the mini is as versatile as it is cute and is a perfect loudspeaker choice for home cinema enthusiasts as well as music lovers.”

The mini is a two-way, rear ported reflex design with a low distortion, 102mm diameter, clay/ceramic filled polypropylene coned woofer. The tweeter boasts a 25mm titanium dome and a ferrofluid cooled, ‘Neodymium Turbo Magnet™’. The result is a startlingly big and commanding sound with fine detail and emotion. In addition, PSB’s designers engineered the crossover frequency, between the bass/midrange unit and the tweeter, to be lower than is usual for this size of speaker, which allows the two drive units to be positioned closer together without causing interference. This means the Mini delivers class leading dispersion, enabling listeners to enjoy the full sonic experience across a larger than usual area of their listening room. Measuring just 146mm wide by 235mm high and 211mm deep, the Mini integrates well as part of a stereo music or multi-channel home theatre ‘Imagine’ system or even as the high quality speakers of a very good desktop system.

Systemline introduces ‘Systemline Airway’ — The World’s first ‘AirPlay’ enabled ceiling speakers!

Systemline, the leading European manufacturer of multi-room home entertainment systems, is a brand of Armour Home. Paul Hilditch, Armour’s Brand Manager responsible for Systemline stated:

“Not that long ago, if you wanted to enjoy the benefits of an installed music system, you would probably have needed to wire your entire home, as well as calling upon the services of a specialist Custom Installer.

This was necessary because all of the equipment and physical media required had to be centrally located, then ‘wired’ to all the rooms in the home. Not surprisingly, the cost associated with this was prohibitive for the vast majority of consumers.

However, during recent years, the situation has changed dramatically. More and more content is being delivered directly to smart mobile devices; including such services as ‘Spotify’, which offers easy access to literally millions of tracks, and very recently ‘iTunes Match’, which stores all of your music in the ‘cloud’.

Such changes mean that there is now no need to have your PC switched on to stream music from it. Indeed there is no need for the PC at all!

Put simply, Systemline Airway makes installed music systems both more accessible and affordable by exploiting these new market realities.”

With Airway, you simply stream content directly from your Apple iPhone (3GS or 4), iPad, or iPod Touch (2G or greater) directly to the Systemline ceiling speakers using Apple AirPlay wireless technology. The only limitation is of course, that your iDevice and app must support AirPlay.

Additionally, because there is no need for room-to-room wiring, connection is simple and a competent ‘DIY’ enthusiast could comfortably install it themselves. Systemline Airway consists of a pair of active ceiling speakers connected using just a single CAT-5 cable (supplied). This in turn is connected to a “Smart Plate” where the power supply and AirPort Express are connected.

To operate the system, users simply open a music playing application on their iDevice and stream music wirelessly to the AirWay system. There is no requirement to dock the device. For ultimate convenience the AirWay system automatically turns on when it detects an audio signal and switches off 5 minutes after the music has stopped.

The Systemline Airway pack has a suggested retail price of £599 inc VAT.

The pack contains all components and connecting cables to complete the installation in one room. If desired, multiple AirWay systems can be fitted into one house and used on the same network. In this case each room is listed when the AirWay icon is pressed. Users simply select the room they are in to enjoy their music.

Systemline was the first European brand to introduce a universal multi-room system back in 1988; it was the first to introduce an all-in-one universal multi-room Central Controller in 1992 and it was the first company to introduce a space efficient multi-room product designed for standard fit in new-build developments in 2000. Systemline Airway is yet another first!

Alphason, the leading UK producers of specialist television and home cinema furniture, is please to announce that it has made a dream come true for the winner of its design competition, student Paul Humphreys.

Alphason is a brand of Armour Home. Its category manager, James McCumesky, explained:
“Paul, a 21-year-old design student at the University of Salford, took part in a special project, run by Alphason Designs, to support and promote young local design talent. This nurturing process, undertaken in conjunction with the schools of design at two UK universities; Staffordshire University and the University of Salford, developed into a competition to find the best new designs for TV and/or home cinema furniture.”

The three top entries each won their creators an eight week work placement at Alphason’s state of the art production facility near Manchester, England.

One of those students was Paul who during his placement designed an AV stand called ‘Pebble’.

Alphason were so impressed with Pebble that they presented it to the John Lewis Partnership, who is now selling it in its stores. Including the Salford branch, less than a ‘pebble’s’ throw from the university where Paul is studying.

Commenting on the scheme, Alphason’s commercial director Paul McCarthy said:
“Alphason is particularly proud of its “Designed in Britain” label and so it is delighted to foster and develop the skills of some of the country’s young designers in this way. We were also exceptionally pleased with the high standard of the entries submitted, which made the judging very difficult. But Paul was a clear winner with his Pebble stand.”
Mr McCarthy continued: “The rationale behind the project was to provide design students with ‘real’ projects which, if deemed suitable, would ultimately find their way into production. Another objective was to provide valuable work placement situations in a generally difficult economic climate.”
And a last word from the winner himself: “I am absolutely over the moon!” said Paul Humphreys; “It has been extremely valuable to me to experience a real work environment, seeing how everything fits together in real life, rather than in a university set up. Having the product chosen by John Lewis is simply the icing on the cake.”

Alphason Designs, the leading UK producers of specialist television and home cinema furniture, is pleased to introduce ‘Event’, an expertly designed and immaculately crafted premium TV stand with a wonderful extra benefit.

Alphason is a brand of Armour Home. Its category manager, James McCumesky, explained:

“Inspiration for the design of the new Event stand came from contemporary minimalist interior trends blended with high end materials. However, as well as being a stylish, eye-catching design, it addresses the issue of sound quality from modern flat screen TVs. Pictures have been getting bigger and better, TVs are slimmer but, due to lack of physical space, their tiny speakers provide obviously ‘thinner’ sound. The Event completely solves this problem because it features a clandestine audio solution which delivers big, room filling stereo sound without having additional speakers on show. The new Event stand is a treat for the ears as well as the eyes.”

Priced at around £449.90 including VAT, the Event TV stand is available now and is part of Alphason’s ‘Design First’ 2011 Collection. It is suitable for televisions with a screen size up to 47 inches and connection could not be more straightforward. Place the television on the cabinet, connect a single cable from the TV or set top box to the audio input of the Event and .…that’s it.
